Adult Learner Persistence
nelrc.org/persist The Adult Learner Persistence website includes tools, models, strategies, and research about ways to help adult students stay on their learning paths. The site grew out of work done by 18 programs doing action research through the New England Learner Persistence Project. On this website, we share the findings, and the growing set of research, models, and tools that is emerging not only from the New England work, but from programs and states across the country. Bantwana Initiative
bantwana.org Launched in 2006 by JSI and partner World Education, the Bantwana Initiative is dedicated to helping orphaned and vulnerable children, along with their caretakers, in sub-Saharan Africa. Bantwana focuses on a holistic approach to care for children and caregivers. The Bantwana website details the model and approach to programs, provides an overview of Bantwana activities, and has an eNewsletter. Managing Stress to Improve Learning
nelrc.org/managingstress Managing Stress to Improve Learning is a project designed to help adult learners deal with chronic stress and other psychological barriers to learning and classroom attendance by promoting mental health through creative expression. The project draws from a variety of disciplines, such as mind/body practices, music, movement, visual arts/crafts, creative writing, and drama. On the website you can find research about how chronic stress, adverse life conditions, and trauma affect the brain and learning, and find ideas about integrating stress management and the promotion of mental health in the adult education classroom. Massachusetts Adult Literacy Hotline
mass.gov/edu/literacyhotline The Massachusetts Adult Literacy Hotline provides referrals to over 300 adult education programs that offer one-on-one tutoring, small-group, or classroom instruction to adult learners. The site can be searched for programs that offer instruction in English language, GED preparation, or basic literacy instruction. Adult learners or those interested in volunteering with a literacy program can generate a list of programs in their area in just three simple steps. The site also offers information about the GED in Massachusetts and information about volunteering in a literacy program. If translation is needed, learners can also call 1-800-447-8844. National College Transition Network

USAID Ambassadors' Girls' Scholarship Program
agsp.worlded.org The Ambassadors' Girls' Scholarship Program (AGSP) provided comprehensive support for girls' education in Africa. A key component of the U.S. President's Africa Education Initiative (AEI), AGSP provided support in the form of school scholarships, mentoring, parent and community awareness programs to promote and support girls' education, and HIV and AIDS awareness activities to prevent and mitigate the spread of HIV. Scholarships ensured access to educational opportunities, and reflected the specific needs within each country.
