We Are Adult Learners

Who are the 36 million adults in the U.S. who need basic education?

These stories were written by adult learners originally for World Education's Change Agent magazine. They show that adult learners do not fit one mold. They are young and older adults, US-born and immigrants. They are working one or more jobs or looking for work. And they also contribute to their communities. Most are parents, and many are grandparents with caregiving responsibilities. Many have struggled--and continue to struggle--with poverty, hunger, health issues, substance abuse, post-traumatic stress and memories of war and abuse, and incarceration. Like all students, they deserve a high quality education that helps them meet their goals. That is where World Education comes in.
