Between check-ups, you are the best person to keep a watch on your health. This part of the book shows ways you can check yourself for signs of cancer.

FOR WOMEN
Do a Breast Self-Exam (BSE) Once a Month

FOR MEN
  Do a Testicle Self-Exam Once a Month

FOR WOMEN AND MEN
  Do a Skin Self-Exam Once a Month

Sometimes people are afraid to do these checks. They don't want to know that they might be sick. If you feel this way, keep two things in mind:

  • Most of the time when someone finds a lump or other sign, nothing serious is wrong.
  • Cancer may be cured if you find it early.

These self-exams can help you find cancer early, BUT they cannot take the place of regular check-ups with your health care provider. To keep yourself healthy and find signs of cancer early, be sure to see your health care provider for the screening tests you need.
