Purpose

To provide students with a test experience based on the health content of the curriculum. To gather information on the knowledge gained by students.

Steps

1. Preview the tests. There is a Multiple Choice Test and a Writing Test. There are several goals to these tests:

To give students test-taking experience. Students in your classes may hope to take the GED. In anticipation, they need experience with this kind of test.

To evaluate how much students have learned through this curriculum. Students have been exposed to a great
deal of health information that can actually save their lives or the lives of people in their communities. This
test is one of the ways to ensure that students have understood the material they have been taught.

This test is not to be given to find out what students do not know, but to find out all that they, in fact, do know. With this in mind, review for the test should be closely correlated to the test.

2. Provide each student with a space in which to take the test.

3. Introduce and explain the goals of the tests to the students.

4. Allow students to work on their tests until they finish.

Follow-Up

Correct the tests and choose your own grading methods (i.e., you may want to give letter grades or just give evaluative comments). You may also want to review the tests with the whole class.
