This practical 36-page guide gives basic information about managed care plans. It is very easy-to-read and has lots of white space, bulleted lists, and spaces to answer questions and write in phone numbers. It talks about choosing a good health plan for your family; how to use your health plan and get the most out of it; how to use mental health and drug and alcohol treatment services; how to know your rights; and what to do if you have a problem. There is practical step-by-step advice on keeping track of information, getting information on the phone, and writing an appeal letter. There is a glossary of terms and a list of useful phone numbers to call for more information. Also available is a series of six, four-page mini-booklets called Fast Facts About Managed Care, which covers the same topics, but with less detail.
KEYWORDS: Advocacy, Health Care Access, Mental Health, Substance Abuse
