USAID | Aprender a Ler Read Aloud Books: Ema vai à escola (Portuguese)

Download this publication
The USAID| Aprender a Ler (ApaL) project, implemented by World Education, worked with local writers to develop a set of 18 read aloud books to help practice listening comprehension and teach new vocabulary. Stories were written based on themes from national textbooks and folk stories. Teachers explain relevant vocabulary words during lessons with child-friendly definitions, and students read aloud in classes and small groups. Read aloud books are also a great resource to encourage children reading at more advanced levels to borrow books to read and talk about with their families and friends.

These read aloud books are teaching and learning aids (TLAs) developed by USAID| ApaL to accompany a set of lesson plans for teachers in project schools. TLAs include items such as letter charts, key word cards, and sets of books for students to practice reading. By following the lesson plans and using these materials, teachers are able to teach children to sound out letters, small words, and sentences.

Ema vai à escola is the eighth book of the set. All 18 books are available in the International Publications section
of our website.
