World Education Awarded U.S. DOL Project to Combat Exploitive Child Labor through Education in Nepal
World Education, Inc. has been awarded a 3-year, $4.25 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to provide quality education and training in Nepal that will help withdraw 8,000 children from the worst forms of child labor and prevent another 7,000 at-risk children from getting involved in exploitative labor. The project, called "Naya Bato Naya Paila" (New Path, New Steps), will offer new learning and employment paths for exploited and at-risk children while promoting increased relevance of educational interventions. In addition, World Education (along with its partner, Terres des Hommes Foundation) will work to strengthen government policy and engagement on child labor issues, raise awareness about the role of education in eliminating exploitative child labor, and support research and data collection on child labor.
This project is part of the $59 million in grants that the USDOL has recently awarded for projects to combat child labor in 19 countries.
World Education has substantial experience designing and implementing child labor-related projects throughout Asia and Africa, including those funded by the U.S. Department of Labor and other donors.
