Dear Friend,

This Mother's Day, please take a moment to think about what you can do to celebrate a mother in your life. Consider the power of honoring her with a gift to the Girls' & Women's Education Initiative, a program that is supporting mothers and their children around the world who fight every day just to survive.

This initiative is a groundbreaking effort to address urgent global issues such as illiteracy, human trafficking and exploitation, child labor, family health and HIV and AIDS, and access to savings and credit. Using education as a primary strategy, Initiative programs tap into the natural instinct and potential of girls and women to learn, lead, and make a living.

Women like Joyce Margaret Igoru from Uganda. I'll never forget what Joyce told me when I visited a World Education-supported program there this past year. After her husband died, Joyce was left alone to raise her 9 month-old son, Joshua. Several months later, Joyce found out that she was HIV positive. She was only 23.

"After my husband died, his family took everything I owned, including my house, because they assumed that I would soon be dead. I was devastated to find out that I was HIV positive, but I learned to take care of myself. I now help others in my community understand how to prevent HIV and to live positively with the virus. It has not been easy, but because I am so healthy, other people look up to me."

I was very moved by Joyce's determination, and it made me think of the thousands of other girls and women who face difficulties everyday with courage and dignity.

I am pleased to say that another mother and long-time supporter recently made a $100,000 leadership gift to ensure a successful launch of this critical initiative. This gift, coupled with many others, has helped us raise nearly 50% of this year's goal. But we need your support today to help us reach our full goal of raising $1,000,000 over the next three years.

Please help us continue the momentum and honor a mother in your life by making a special gift to the Girls' & Women's Education Initiative. Ambitious goals like this one are achievable when everyone helps.

Happy Mother's Day and thank you for all of your efforts and support.

Sincerely Yours,
Joel H. Lamstein, President
