In nine targeted communities with over 1,000 children on the Thailand-Burma border, families enroll their children in community schools that are not legally accredited or financially sustainable, where students are at risk of having no schools, no records and no choice. PACE provides a solution that keeps parents and communities in control while giving youth formal and non-formal opportunities for accredited education in Thailand and Myanmar. PACE will decrease dependence on unrecognized community schools by increasing enrollment into Thai formal schools, and will create greater financial sustainability for community schools through cost sharing programs with PTAs.
To deliver this project World Education will work with two local partners, the Burmese Migrant Workers’ Education Committee (BMEC) and the Migrant Education Coordination Center (MECC) which is a special office under the Thai Ministry of Education established in partnership with World Education. Working with established local organizations will ensure that parent and community decision making for the future of Burmese migrant children in Thailand is at the center of the project.
